A career in leadership changes how you see it

My perspective on coaching was shaped long before I became a coach. I’ve spent more than three decades working in business operations, consulting, and senior technology leadership, including Global Head of IT. 

I know what it means to make consequential decisions without having every answer—and to be accountable for outcomes that depend on other people.

What I learned from being on the inside

Organizations rarely behave as neatly as their plans suggest. A stalled initiative may reveal disagreement about what success means. A difficult relationship may reflect expectations no one has articulated. Someone labeled resistant may be responding reasonably to something others have missed.

Those experiences taught me to question easy explanations and look at a situation from more than one vantage point. They also taught me that insight has to survive contact with the practical realities of the business.

Curiosity, candor, and room to think

I’m curious about how people arrive at their conclusions—including my own. I listen closely, ask direct questions, and challenge an assumption when I think it deserves a closer look.

I respect that clients must live with the choices they make. My role is not to substitute my judgment for theirs, but to help them see more clearly what they’re deciding—and why.
